『Stay Hungry』は、TWISTED SISTERを一躍世界的なバンドへ押し上げた、キャリア最大の成功作にして第3作だ。トム・ワーマンをプロデューサーに迎えた本作は、全米で300万枚を超える売上を記録し、バンド唯一のプラチナ・アルバムとなった。ディー・スナイダーの強烈なキャラクターと、誰もが歌えるコーラス、シンプルで太いリフが一体となり、反骨のアンセムを次々と生み出している。全曲をスナイダーが書いている。 “We're Not Gonna Take It”と“I Wanna Rock”は、コミカルなMTVビデオとともに巨大なヒットとなり、80年代を象徴する楽曲となった。前者はティッパー・ゴアらPMRCの槍玉に挙げられたことでも知られる。パワー・バラード“The Price”、映画『ピーウィーの大冒険』にも登場した“Burn in Hell”、二部構成の組曲“Horror-Teria (The Beginning)”、ファンに捧げた“S.M.F.”まで、アルバムには派手さと確かな構築力が同居する。ツアーではメタリカが前座を務めた。大仰なイメージの奥に、フックを最短距離で届けるセンスが光る、TWISTED SISTERの代表作である。

Stay Hungry is the third album and the band’s greatest success, the one that lifted Twisted Sister to worldwide fame. Produced by Tom Werman, it sold more than three million copies in the US and became the band’s only platinum album. Dee Snider’s huge character, choruses anyone can sing and simple, thick riffs combine to turn out one defiant anthem after another. Snider wrote every song. “We're Not Gonna Take It” and “I Wanna Rock” became massive hits alongside their comedic MTV videos and came to symbolize the 1980s; the former is also known for being targeted by Tipper Gore’s PMRC. From the power ballad “The Price” and “Burn in Hell,” which appeared in the film Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, to the two-part suite “Horror-Teria (The Beginning)” and the fan tribute “S.M.F.,” spectacle and real craft live side by side. Metallica opened on the tour. Beneath the oversized image is a sharp instinct for delivering hooks by the shortest route: Twisted Sister’s signature work.
