『We Are Not Your Kind』は、怒り、恐怖、実験性を緻密な音像に封じ込め、SLIPKNOTが再び極限を押し広げた第6作だ。前作から5年ぶりとなる本作では、重厚なヘヴィネスに、より不穏で実験的な音響が織り込まれている。プロデュースはグレッグ・フィデルマンが手掛けた。ギターのジム・ルートは、シングル偏重の時代にあえて、頭から最後まで一貫した「アルバム体験」を作ることを目指したと語っている。先行して発表されたシングル“All Out Life”を経て、じっくりと練り上げられた一枚だ。 “Unsainted”“Solway Firth”“Nero Forte”といった、多彩な楽曲が並ぶ。緊張感に満ちたインタールードや、静と動の劇的な対比が、アルバム全体に一貫した世界観を与えている。本作はアメリカやイギリスをはじめ、世界各国のチャートで1位を獲得した。円熟した実験精神と、変わらぬ攻撃性を両立させた、批評的にも高く評価された一枚である。パーカッションのクリス・フェーンが不在となった後の、最初のアルバムでもある。長いキャリアを経てなお、彼らが果敢に新たな挑戦を続けていることを示す一枚だ。

We Are Not Your Kind is Slipknot's sixth album, on which they again pushed the extreme, sealing anger, fear and experimentation into a dense sonic picture. On this record, their first in five years, more ominous, experimental sound is woven into their heavy weight. Production was handled by Greg Fidelman. Guitarist Jim Root said that, in an era fixated on singles, they deliberately aimed to create a consistent 'album experience' from start to finish. Following the earlier single 'All Out Life,' it is a carefully honed record. Varied songs like "Unsainted," "Solway Firth" and "Nero Forte" line up. Tense interludes and dramatic contrasts of quiet and loud give the whole album a consistent worldview. The album reached No. 1 on the charts in countries around the world, including the US and the UK. A highly critically praised record, balancing a matured experimental spirit with unchanging aggression. It is also the first album after the departure of percussionist Chris Fehn. A record showing that, even after a long career, they keep taking on new challenges.
