『Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)』は、轟音の中へメロディと陰影を取り込み、SLIPKNOTが表現の幅を大きく広げた第三作だ。プロデュースには、名匠リック・ルービンを迎えている。従来の混沌とした攻撃性を保ちつつ、より伝統的で旋律的な楽曲構成や、アコースティックな要素、ギター・ソロを初めて大胆に取り入れた。本作は、ロサンゼルスの邸宅「The Mansion」で録音された。制作前には、メンバーがSTONE SOURなどのサイド・プロジェクトに取り組んでおり、その経験も作風の幅に反映されている。 “Duality”“Before I Forget”“Vermilion”といった、多彩な楽曲が並ぶ。“Before I Forget”は、グラミー賞の最優秀メタル・パフォーマンス賞を受賞した。攻撃性とメロディの両立により、彼らの音楽性は飛躍的に深まっている。本作はアメリカで2位を記録し、批評的にも高く評価された。バンドの成熟と、新たな可能性を切り開いた重要作である。先行シングル“Duality”とそのミュージック・ビデオは、彼らの代表的な楽曲として広く親しまれている。

Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses) is Slipknot's third album, on which they greatly broadened their range of expression by taking melody and shading into the roar. For production they brought in the master Rick Rubin. While keeping their usual chaotic aggression, they boldly incorporated more traditional, melodic song construction, acoustic elements and guitar solos for the first time. The album was recorded at 'The Mansion' in Los Angeles. Before making it, members had worked on side projects such as Stone Sour, and that experience is reflected in the breadth of its style. Varied songs like "Duality," "Before I Forget" and "Vermilion" line up. "Before I Forget" won the Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance. Through balancing aggression with melody, their musicality deepened dramatically. The album reached No. 2 in the US and was highly praised critically. An important work opening up the band's maturity and new possibilities. The lead single 'Duality' and its music video are widely loved as one of their signature songs.
