『Open Up and Say... Ahh!』は、POISONが軽快なリフ、明るいコーラス、ライヴで弾けるようなリズムをまとめた第2作にして最大の代表作だ。ブレット・マイケルズ(ヴォーカル)、C.C.デヴィル(ギター)、ボビー・ダール(ベース)、リッキー・ロケット(ドラム)という布陣で制作された。曲はすぐ口に残るが、演奏にはバンドらしい勢いとラフな手触りが残されている。 “Nothin' but a Good Time”の開放感と“Every Rose Has Its Thorn”の哀感が並び、アルバムの表情を大きく広げる。マイケルズが書いたバラード“Every Rose Has Its Thorn”は全米1位に輝き、バンド最大のヒットとなった。ロギンス&メッシーナのカヴァー“Your Mama Don't Dance”も10位を記録している。“Fallen Angel”の疾走、“Look but You Can't Touch”の勢いも、アルバムの華やかさを支えている。“Fallen Angel”は全米12位のヒットを記録した。当初の挑発的なジャケットは物議を醸し、修正版が用意されたことでも知られる。本作は全米2位・5倍プラチナに達し、80年代のアリーナ・ロックを象徴する一枚である。

Open Up and Say... Ahh! is the second album and their biggest signature work, on which Poison pulled together light riffs, bright choruses and rhythms that pop live. It was made with the lineup of Bret Michaels (vocals), C.C. DeVille (guitar), Bobby Dall (bass) and Rikki Rockett (drums). The songs stick in the mind instantly, but the playing retains the band's momentum and rough texture. The openness of "Nothin' but a Good Time" and the pathos of "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" line up, greatly widening the album's expression. The ballad "Every Rose Has Its Thorn," written by Michaels, reached US number 1, becoming the band's biggest hit. The Loggins & Messina cover "Your Mama Don't Dance" also reached number 10. The album reached US number 2 and 5x Platinum, a record symbolizing 1980s arena rock.
