Open Up and Say... Ahh! is the second album and their biggest signature work, on which Poison pulled together light riffs, bright choruses and rhythms that pop live. It was made with the lineup of Bret Michaels (vocals), C.C. DeVille (guitar), Bobby Dall (bass) and Rikki Rockett (drums). The songs stick in the mind instantly, but the playing retains the band's momentum and rough texture.
The openness of "Nothin' but a Good Time" and the pathos of "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" line up, greatly widening the album's expression. The ballad "Every Rose Has Its Thorn," written by Michaels, reached US number 1, becoming the band's biggest hit. The Loggins & Messina cover "Your Mama Don't Dance" also reached number 10. The album reached US number 2 and 5x Platinum, a record symbolizing 1980s arena rock.
