『New Tattoo』は、MÖTLEY CRÜEが重いギターと土臭いリズムを中心に据え、曲を短く直線的に鳴らした作品だ。メンバー交代の時期ならではの緊張感が、作品に独特の切迫感を与えている。実験的だった前作から一転、バンドのルーツであるストレートなロックンロールへと回帰した一枚である。 “Hell On High Heels”“New Tattoo”“Dragstrip Superstar”といった楽曲では、バンドの代表作とは異なる陰影を持ちながらも、危険な匂いと反骨心は健在だ。“Treat Me Like the Dog I Am”“Punched In the Teeth By Love”のような楽曲にも、バンドの充実した演奏が息づいている。ドラマーのトミー・リーが脱退し元オジー・オズボーン・バンドのランディ・カスティロが加入した時期の作品であり、実験的だった前作の反動もありシンプルで骨太なロックンロールへと立ち返った原点回帰の一枚だ。荒削りな勢いを楽しむための内容だ。トミー・リーの脱退という変化を経てもなお、バンドの反骨精神は少しも衰えていない、力強い一枚である。変わらぬ危険な魅力を放つファンには嬉しい原点回帰作であり、荒々しいロックンロールへの愛が全編に貫かれている。

New Tattoo is a work on which MÖTLEY CRÜE placed heavy guitar and earthy rhythm at the center, sounding the songs short and linear. A tension characteristic of a time of lineup change gives the work a distinctive urgency. Turning from the experimental previous album, it is a record that returned to the band’s roots — straight rock ’n’ roll. On “Hell On High Heels,” “New Tattoo” and “Dragstrip Superstar,” while having a different shading from the band’s signature works, the dangerous scent and defiance are alive and well. Songs like “Treat Me Like the Dog I Am” and “Punched In the Teeth By Love” breathe the band’s full playing too. It is content for enjoying rough momentum. Even through the change of Tommy Lee’s departure, the band’s rebellious spirit has not dimmed in the least — a powerful record.
