『Killswitch Engage』は、咆哮とクリーン・ヴォーカル、鋭いメロディを高密度に結んだKILLSWITCH ENGAGEのセルフタイトル作だ。2000年のデビュー作に続く、2枚目の同名作にあたる第5作である。本作では、アダム・Dに加えて、AC/DCやパール・ジャムを手掛けたブレンダン・オブライエンを共同プロデューサーに迎えた。バンドが外部のプロデューサーと組んだ初めての作品でもある。オブライエンはジョーンズにこれまで以上に歌い込むよう求め、ジョーンズは制作の過酷さを「自分を殺しかねないほどだった」と振り返っている。 レコーディングはアトランタで行われ、地元マサチューセッツを離れて制作された初のアルバムとなった。“Starting Over”“Reckoning”といった代表曲が並び、オブライエンの指揮のもとハワード・ジョーンズの歌唱がより前面に出ている。全米ビルボード200で初めてトップ10入りを果たし、7位に初登場した。よりメロディアスに洗練された、バンドの転換点となる一枚である。賛否を呼びつつも商業的な成功を収め、バンドの新たな一面を提示した。ツインギターとフォーリーのドラムが、より重厚なサウンドを支えている。

Killswitch Engage is Killswitch Engage's self-titled album, on which they densely tied together roars, clean vocals and sharp melodies. It is their fifth album, the second to share this name, following their 2000 debut. On this record, alongside Adam D they brought in Brendan O'Brien, known for AC/DC and Pearl Jam, as co-producer. It is also the band's first album made with an outside producer. O'Brien pushed Jones to sing and enunciate more than ever, and Jones later recalled the grueling process as almost "the death of me." Recording took place in Atlanta, making it the first album created away from their home state of Massachusetts. Signature songs like "Starting Over" and "Reckoning" line up, and under O'Brien's guidance Howard Jones's singing comes further to the fore. It reached the Billboard 200's Top 10 for the first time, debuting at No. 7. A more melodically refined record that marks a turning point for the band. Drawing mixed reactions yet commercial success, it presented a new side of the band. The twin guitars and Foley's drumming underpin a weightier sound.
