Liner Notes
Killswitch Engage is Killswitch Engage's self-titled album, on which they densely tied together roars, clean vocals and sharp melodies. It is their fifth album, the second to share this name, following their 2000 debut. On this record, alongside Adam D they brought in Brendan O'Brien, known for AC/DC and Pearl Jam, as co-producer. It is also the band's first album made with an outside producer. O'Brien pushed Jones to sing and enunciate more than ever, and Jones later recalled the grueling process as almost "the death of me."
Recording took place in Atlanta, making it the first album created away from their home state of Massachusetts. Signature songs like "Starting Over" and "Reckoning" line up, and under O'Brien's guidance Howard Jones's singing comes further to the fore. It reached the Billboard 200's Top 10 for the first time, debuting at No. 7. A more melodically refined record that marks a turning point for the band. Drawing mixed reactions yet commercial success, it presented a new side of the band. The twin guitars and Foley's drumming underpin a weightier sound.
