Immortalized

『Immortalized』は、2011年から続いた活動休止を経て発表された、DISTURBEDの復帰作となる第6作だ。この間、ドレイマンはインダストリアル・メタル・バンドDeviceで活動していた。ケヴィン・チャーコのプロデュースのもと、重量感あるリフと劇的な歌を軸に、ヘヴィ・ロックの迫力と感情を結び直している。本作はジョン・モイヤーがレコーディングに参加せず、ドネガンがベースも兼ねてトリオ編成で録音された唯一の作品でもある。 “The Vengeful One”“The Light”は力強いリフとフックで復帰を印象づけた。そして何より、サイモン&ガーファンクルの“The Sound of Silence”をカバーした一曲が、ジャンルを越えた大ヒットとなった。ドレイマンの荘厳な歌唱は原曲の作者ポール・サイモンからも称賛され、グラミー賞にもノミネートされている。米ビルボード200で初登場1位を獲得し、5作連続の首位を達成した。“Fire It Up”“What Are You Waiting For?”のような力強い楽曲も並び、休止を経てなおバンドの推進力が健在であることを示した。重さと感情、そして意外性を兼ね備えた構成が、本作を長く記憶される復帰作にしている。復活の勢いを鮮烈に示した一枚である。

Immortalized is the sixth album, Disturbed's comeback record after a hiatus that began in 2011. During that time, Draiman was active in the industrial metal band Device. Under the production of Kevin Churko, it reconnects the force and emotion of heavy rock around weighty riffs and dramatic singing. It is also the band's only album recorded as a trio, with John Moyer not participating in the sessions and Donegan handling bass as well. "The Vengeful One" and "The Light" marked the return with powerful riffs and hooks. Above all, a cover of Simon & Garfunkel's "The Sound of Silence" became a crossover smash. Draiman's solemn singing drew praise even from the original's writer Paul Simon and was nominated for a Grammy. It debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200, its fifth consecutive chart-topper. A record that vividly showed the momentum of the revival.
