Evolution

『Evolution』は、DISTURBEDが得意とする硬質なリフとドレイマンの強い歌を保ちながら、より内省的でメロディアスな場面を増やした第7作だ。前作に続きケヴィン・チャーコがプロデュースを手掛けた。低く沈むギターと太いリズムは十分に重いが、今回は怒りや圧力だけで押し切らず、声の脆さや静かな感情を前面に出す瞬間が多い。激しい曲とバラードを並べることで、バンドの音楽が持つ緊張と解放がよりはっきり見えてくる。 先行シングル“Are You Ready”は力強いビートで前進し、“A Reason to Fight”“Hold On to Memories”は感情的なメロディで深く残る。“No More”では攻撃性が際立ち、抑えた楽曲では歌の言葉が前面に出る。ヘヴィネスを弱めることなく、弱さや迷いを表現の一部として取り込んだ点が本作の魅力だ。現代的に整理された音像は、感情を遠ざけるのではなく各パートの輪郭を明確にしている。“In Another Time”“Already Gone”のような楽曲では、内省的なメロディがより前面に出る。繰り返し聴くほど、曲順の中で攻撃性と内省が互いを強めていることが分かる。DISTURBEDの核を保ちつつ、表現の可動域を広げた一枚である。

Evolution is the seventh album, on which Disturbed keeps its firm riffs and Draiman's strong singing while increasing more introspective, melodic passages. Kevin Churko produced again, following the previous album. The low guitar and thick rhythm are weighty enough, but this time it does not win through anger and pressure alone, with many moments foregrounding vocal fragility and quiet emotion. Placing fierce songs and ballads side by side, the tension and release in the band's music become clearer. The lead single "Are You Ready" moves forward with a powerful beat, and "A Reason to Fight" and "Hold On to Memories" linger with emotional melodies. On "No More," aggression stands out, while the restrained songs foreground the words of the singing. Taking in weakness and doubt as part of its expression without weakening the heaviness is the record's appeal. Keeping the core of Disturbed while widening its range of expression, it is a notable record.
