Cursum Perficio is a 2026 work into which Anthrax, around bouncing rhythm, amply packs its strengths. Sharp thrash riffs, dignified choruses and Joey Belladonna’s high, piercing voice resound powerfully with the sure dignity particular to veterans. A record showing that, even after a long career, its creative drive and playing quality have not dimmed in the least. Rather than being caught by flashy, immediate signature songs alone, following how the sonic center is placed, the deft layering of choruses and the natural flow between songs, a unified, rich expression as a whole album comes clearly into view. While sensitively taking in the era’s change, the sure feel at the core of the band Anthrax is not lost in the least. The sure playing of Scott Ian and the others supports that world. Its great value lies in powerfully keeping sounding, in the present, the aggression and catchiness Anthrax does best, without lowering its quality in the least, rather than merely chasing flashy surprise. A powerful, engaging thrash-metal work showing the mature fullness of the current lineup with Belladonna — a record showing the band’s vigor.
