『Attack of the Killer B's』は、ANTHRAXの、B面曲や、カヴァー、そして実験的なナンバーなどを集めた、企画性の非常に強いコンピレーション作品だ。その内容は、単なる寄せ集めではなく、バンドの、遊び心と、幅広い音楽的ルーツとを、色濃く反映している。とりわけ、ヒップホップ・グループ、パブリック・エナミーとの共演で、彼らの楽曲“Bring the Noise”をカヴァーした一曲は、メタルとラップとを、本格的に融合させた、歴史的な先駆けとして、極めて高く評価されている。 この“Bring the Noise”の大成功は、後の、あのラップ・メタルという、一大ムーブメントの、その扉を、力強く開いた、記念碑的な出来事であった。単に、原曲の知名度に頼るのではなく、リズムの力強い押し出しや、コーラスの厚みの中に、ANTHRACならではの、確かな癖と、美学とが、はっきりと浮かび上がってくる。バンドの、ジャンルの垣根を越えた、旺盛な挑戦精神が、全編にみなぎった内容だ。 収録された、各楽曲の、その多彩な出自を追うだけでなく、アルバムという、一つの並びの中で生まれる、統一感にこそ、耳を向けたい一枚だ。代表作の流れからは、少し外れた企画盤ではあるが、ANTHRAXが、いかに自由で、遊び心にあふれたバンドであるかを、力強く伝えている。バンドの、輪郭を、より立体的に確認できる、実に興味深い一枚と言える。

Attack of the Killer B's is a very strongly conceptual compilation gathering Anthrax’s B-sides, covers and experimental numbers. Its content is not a mere miscellany but strongly reflects the band’s playfulness and broad musical roots. In particular, the track covering the song “Bring the Noise” in collaboration with the hip-hop group Public Enemy is extremely highly praised as a historic pioneer that seriously fused metal and rap. The great success of this “Bring the Noise” was a monumental event that powerfully opened the door to the later major movement of rap metal. Rather than merely relying on the fame of the originals, Anthrax’s own sure quirks and aesthetic clearly emerge within the powerful drive of the rhythm and the thick choruses. Content filled throughout with the band’s vigorous challenging spirit crossing genre boundaries. A record on which one wants to turn one’s ear not only to the varied origins of each included track but to the unity born within the album’s ordering.
