Forevermore

『Forevermore』は、WHITESNAKEがブルースに根差した太いリフ、重厚なアレンジ、デイヴィッド・カヴァデールの情感ある歌を重ね合わせた作品だ。伝統的なハード・ロックの骨格を保ちながら、音像は大きく、サビには成熟した叙情が宿っている。前作『Good to Be Bad』での復活の勢いを受け継ぎ、バンドはさらに充実した楽曲群を作り上げている。 ダグ・アルドリッチとレブ・ビーチによるツイン・ギターの表情豊かなフレーズが曲を彩り、バラードにもロック・ナンバーにも深みを与えている。“Love Will Set You Free”“Steal Your Heart Away”“Forevermore”“One of These Days”といった楽曲では、力強さと叙情が高い次元で両立している。“Whipping Boy Blues”のような楽曲には、バンドのブルース・ルーツも色濃く表れている。本作はバンドにとって、活動休止からの復帰以降の充実期を象徴する一枚となった。“Easier Said Than Done”“Tell Me How”“Fare Thee Well”といった楽曲にも、多彩な表情が表れている。WHITESNAKEの円熟と力強さを同時に感じられる本作は、復帰後のバンドの充実を伝える、聴き応えのある一枚である。

Forevermore is a work on which WHITESNAKE layered blues-rooted thick riffs, weighty arrangement and David Coverdale’s emotive singing. Keeping the frame of traditional hard rock, the sonic image is large and a matured lyricism dwells in the choruses. Inheriting the momentum of the comeback on Good to Be Bad, the band builds an even fuller set of songs. The expressive phrasing of the twin guitars by Doug Aldrich and Reb Beach colors the songs, giving depth to both ballads and rock numbers. On “Love Will Set You Free,” “Steal Your Heart Away,” “Forevermore” and “One of These Days,” strength and lyricism balance at a high level. A song like “Whipping Boy Blues” strongly shows the band’s blues roots too. Letting you feel WHITESNAKE’s maturity and strength at once, it is a rewarding record conveying the fullness of the post-comeback band.
