Forevermore is a work on which WHITESNAKE layered blues-rooted thick riffs, weighty arrangement and David Coverdale’s emotive singing. Keeping the frame of traditional hard rock, the sonic image is large and a matured lyricism dwells in the choruses. Inheriting the momentum of the comeback on Good to Be Bad, the band builds an even fuller set of songs.
The expressive phrasing of the twin guitars by Doug Aldrich and Reb Beach colors the songs, giving depth to both ballads and rock numbers. On “Love Will Set You Free,” “Steal Your Heart Away,” “Forevermore” and “One of These Days,” strength and lyricism balance at a high level. A song like “Whipping Boy Blues” strongly shows the band’s blues roots too. Letting you feel WHITESNAKE’s maturity and strength at once, it is a rewarding record conveying the fullness of the post-comeback band.
