Ultraphobic is a work on which WARRANT, while keeping the strength of melody they excel at, headed toward a rougher, heavier guitar sound. Jani Lane’s singing shows not only sweetness but also an expression containing fatigue and anxiety. It is a record that digested the alternative air of the times in their own way. On “Undertow,” “Family Picnic” and “Ultraphobic,” while keeping a pop entry point, they take the alternative hardness of the time into the arrangement. Songs like “Followed” and “Crawl Space” breathe the band’s full playing too. An introspective depth different from gorgeous glam metal is felt. It is a full record that did not lose the character of the songwriting even amid change.
