『Belly to Belly』は、WARRANTが80年代的な華やかさから距離を取り、低いギター、くすんだ音色、重いリズムへ寄った作品だ。ジャニ・レインのメロディ感覚は残りながらも、曲の表情にはより深い陰りがある。時代の空気を、自分たちなりに受け止めようとした一枚である。 “In The End”“Feels Good”“Falling Down”といった楽曲では、変化は大きいが、バンドが新しい方向を模索した痕跡が明確に残っている。“Solid”“Vertigo”のような楽曲にも、バンドの充実した演奏が息づいている。本作はバンドがオリジナル・メンバーで制作した90年代における最後のスタジオ・アルバムとなっており、“Letter To A Friend”“All 4 U”“Room With A View”のような楽曲にもバンドの充実した演奏が息づいている。前作からさらにダークでヘヴィな方向性を深め当時のオルタナティヴ・ロックの影響を色濃く感じさせる、時代の変化に真摯に向き合った90年代WARRANTの到達点を示す一枚である。既成のグラム・メタルのイメージだけでは語れない、深みのある内容だ。90年代中盤のWARRANTを映す、意欲的な一枚である。

Belly to Belly is a work on which WARRANT distanced themselves from 1980s gorgeousness, leaning toward low guitar, dull tones and heavy rhythm. While Jani Lane’s melodic sense remains, the expression of the songs has a deeper shadow. It is a record on which they tried to take in the air of the times in their own way. On “In The End,” “Feels Good” and “Falling Down,” the change is large, but the traces of the band seeking a new direction clearly remain. Songs like “Solid” and “Vertigo” breathe the band’s full playing too. It is content with depth that cannot be told by the ready-made glam-metal image alone. It is an ambitious record that reflects the WARRANT of the mid-1990s.
