Elements Pt. 2

『Elements Pt. 2』は、前編『Elements Pt. 1』で示した、シンフォニックで壮大なスケール感を受け継ぎながらも、より引き締まったリフと、劇的なメロディへと、その重心を置いた、二部作の後編にあたる作品だ。キーボードとギターは、華やかに絡み合い、各楽曲は、大きく開かれたコーラスへと向かって、明確に組み立てられている。壮大な二部作を、力強く締めくくる一枚である。 陰りのある荘厳な導入部や、重量感のあるヘヴィな場面が、STRATOVARIUS本来の、明るく爽快な疾走感に、また別の深い色合いを加えている。前編が持っていた、オーケストラ的な壮大さは保ちつつも、より直線的で、パワフルなメタルとしての側面が、強く打ち出されているのが、本作の大きな特徴だ。 前後編を通して聴くことで、その壮大なコンセプトの全体像が、はっきりと見えてくる、意欲的な作品だ。疾走感、シンフォニックな要素、そしてドラマティックな展開という、バンドの持つ魅力が、余すところなく詰め込まれている。野心的な二部作プロジェクトを、見事に完結させた、充実したシンフォニック・パワー・メタル作品と言える。バンドの創作意欲の高さを示す一枚だ。

Elements Pt. 2 is the second half of the diptych, on which, while inheriting the symphonic, grand scale shown on the first half Elements Pt. 1, Stratovarius places its weight on tighter riffs and dramatic melody. Keyboards and guitar intertwine flamboyantly, and each song is clearly built toward widely opened choruses. A record that powerfully caps the grand diptych. Shadowed, solemn introductions and weighty, heavy passages add another deep hue to Stratovarius’s native bright, brisk speed. Keeping the orchestral grandeur the first half held, its major distinction is strongly putting forward a more straight-ahead, powerful metal side. An ambitious work whose grand concept’s whole picture comes clearly into view by listening through both halves. The band’s appeals — speed, symphonic elements and dramatic development — are packed in without reserve. Splendidly completing an ambitious diptych project, it is a fulfilling symphonic-power-metal work — a record showing the height of the band’s creative drive.
