Audio Secrecy

『Audio Secrecy』は、STONE SOURがより成熟した音作りへと踏み出した第3作だ。前作に続きニック・ラスカリネッツがプロデュースを手掛け、ナッシュヴィルのブラックバード・スタジオで録音された。ハード・ロックの重さを保ちながら、緻密で層の厚いアレンジ、そしてアトモスフェリックな展開を大胆に取り入れている。本作は、この年に急逝したSLIPKNOTのベーシスト、ポール・グレイに捧げられている。 “Say You'll Haunt Me”は感情的なメロディで代表曲となり、“Digital (Did You Tell)”はデジタル時代の孤立を鋭く見つめた楽曲だ。“Hesitate”“Miracles”のようなバラードでは、テイラーの繊細な歌唱が際立つ。攻撃性を抑え、旋律と構築の深みを重視した本作は、バンドの表現力の広がりを鮮やかに示した。“Mission Statement”は硬質なリフで幕を開け、“Threadbare”のような長尺曲は壮大な広がりを見せる。オリジナル・ベーシスト、ショーン・エコノマキが参加した最後の作品でもある。米ビルボード200で6位を記録した、円熟の一枚である。

Audio Secrecy is the third album, on which Stone Sour stepped toward a more mature sound. Nick Raskulinecz produced again, and it was recorded at Blackbird Studios in Nashville. Keeping hard rock's weight, it boldly takes in intricate, layered arrangement and atmospheric development. The album is dedicated to Slipknot bassist Paul Gray, who died suddenly that year. "Say You'll Haunt Me" became a signature song with its emotional melody, and "Digital (Did You Tell)" is a song that sharply examines isolation in the digital age. On ballads like "Hesitate" and "Miracles," Taylor's delicate singing stands out. Restraining aggression and emphasizing depth of melody and construction, it vividly showed the widening of the band's expressive power. It is also the last album to feature original bassist Shawn Economaki. Reaching number six on the US Billboard 200, it is a record of maturity.
