『Come What(ever) May』は、STONE SOURが表現の幅を大きく広げた第2作だ。ドラマーがロイ・マヨルガに交代し、プロデュースにニック・ラスカリネッツを迎えて制作された。前作のメロディックなハード・ロックを土台に、より緻密でダイナミックな曲作りへと進化している。コーリー・テイラーは自身のアルコール依存や苦悩からの回復を主題に据え、感情的な深みを大きく増した。 “Through Glass”は覚えやすいメロディでバンド最大のヒットとなり、幅広い層に届いた。“30/30-150”“Made of Scars”はいずれもグラミー賞にノミネートされ、“Sillyworld”も高い人気を得た。回復への想いを込めたバラード“Zzyzx Rd.”は、テイラーの真摯な歌詞が胸を打つ。録音はロサンゼルスのStudio 606で行われた。“Hell & Consequences”“Reborn”のような楽曲では、疾走感と重さが際立ち、アルバムに緩急を与えている。攻撃性とメロディ、そして内省を高い次元で結び付けた本作は、米ビルボード200で4位を記録し、プラチナ認定を達成した。バンド最大の成功作にして、表現の成熟を示した重要作である。

Come What(ever) May is the second album, on which Stone Sour greatly widened its range. The drummer changed to Roy Mayorga, and it was made with Nick Raskulinecz as producer. Building on the melodic hard rock of the debut, it evolves toward more intricate, dynamic songwriting. Corey Taylor set his own alcoholism and recovery from suffering as themes, greatly increasing the emotional depth. "Through Glass" became the band's biggest hit with its memorable melody, reaching a wide audience. "30/30-150" and "Made of Scars" were both Grammy-nominated, and "Sillyworld" also gained wide popularity. The ballad "Zzyzx Rd.," charged with feelings toward recovery, strikes home with Taylor's sincere lyrics. Binding aggression, melody and introspection at a high level, it reached number four on the US Billboard 200 and achieved platinum. The band's most successful album and an important record showing expressive maturity.
