Acoustic Adventures – Volume One is an ambitious work on which Sonata Arctica reconstructs many of its past songs with a wholly new expression through acoustic arrangement. It is the first of a two-part set. Deliberately excluding the fiercely speeding power-metal sound, it again carefully brings out the beauty of melody and rich lyricism the songs originally hold, within the warm, delicate resonance of acoustic instruments. Content on which Tony Kakko’s expressive vocals stand out all the more. Rather than merely replaying past signature songs quietly, it carefully reinterprets the layering of choruses and the very development of the songs within the new vessel of acoustic. The subtle nuances of delicate melody and the deep emotion of the lyrics, hard to catch within the original speed, come through more vividly and deeply in this form. You can again feel the sure high quality of the band’s outstanding songwriting. A record letting you deeply savor Sonata Arctica’s musical essence from an angle different from the fierce metal sound.
