『Unleash the Fire』は、創設者マーク・リアリの逝去という悲劇を乗り越え、残されたメンバーがRIOT Vとして、その輝かしい遺志を力強く受け継いだ、再出発の作品だ。疾走するパワー・メタルという、バンドの黄金期の様式を、真正面から継承している。新たなヴォーカリストを中心に、バンドは往年の熱量を、見事に現代へと蘇らせている。 冒頭“Ride Hard Live Free”の力強い推進力、疾走する“Metal Warrior”、そして壮大な表題曲“Unleash the Fire”まで、収録曲はいずれも、『Thundersteel』の系譜を感じさせる、鋭い疾走感に満ちている。日本を題材にした“Land of the Rising Sun”や、“Bring the Hammer Down”のような曲も、バンドの健在ぶりを伝えている。 看板であったリアリを失いながらも、その音楽的な魂を、決して絶やすことなく、力強く未来へと繋いでいく、メンバーの強い決意が感じられる一枚だ。単なる追悼に留まらず、現役のパワー・メタル・バンドとしての、確かな実力を示している。RIOTの伝統を受け継ぎ、新たな一歩を踏み出した、力強く感動的な再始動作と言える。

Unleash the Fire is a restart on which, overcoming the tragedy of founder Mark Reale’s passing, the remaining members, as Riot V, powerfully inherit his brilliant will. It inherits head-on the style of the band’s golden era — dashing power metal. Around a new vocalist, the band beautifully revives the intensity of old into the present. From the powerful drive of the opener “Ride Hard Live Free” and the dashing “Metal Warrior” to the grand title track “Unleash the Fire,” every song is full of a sharp speed that evokes the lineage of Thundersteel, while “Land of the Rising Sun,” themed on Japan, and a cut like “Bring the Hammer Down” convey the band’s vigor. Even having lost the flagship Reale, it is a record where the members’ strong resolve to carry his musical spirit powerfully into the future, never letting it die, can be felt. Not stopping at mere tribute, it shows sure ability as an active power-metal band. Inheriting Riot’s tradition and stepping forward anew, it is a powerful, moving restart.
