『Out of the Cellar』は、RATTがロサンゼルスの華やかな空気を、重くうねるリフとスティーヴン・パーシーの独特な歌声で結晶化したデビュー作だ。パーシー(ヴォーカル)、ウォーレン・デマルティーニとロビン・クロスビーの二本のギター、フアン・クルーシェ(ベース)、ボビー・ブロッツァー(ドラム)という黄金の五人が布陣を固めた。ギターは派手なソロだけでなく、曲を押し出すリズムの強さでも強い印象を残す。 “Round and Round”を筆頭に、曲はコンパクトでありながらフックが多い。デマルティーニとクロスビーのツイン・ギターが牽引した“Round and Round”は全米12位のヒットとなり、バンドを一躍スターダムへ押し上げた。“Wanted Man”“Back for More”のような楽曲も勢いに満ちている。“You're in Trouble”“Scene of the Crime”のような楽曲でも、二本のギターが緊密に絡み合う。バンドはサンディエゴのミッキー・ラットを母体に、ロサンゼルスのグラム・メタル勢の先陣を切った。本作は最終的に3倍プラチナに達し、彼らの名を全米に轟かせた。キャッチーさと危険な色気を同時に備えた、80年代LAメタルの基準点となる一枚である。

Out of the Cellar is the debut album, on which RATT crystallized the glamorous air of Los Angeles with heavy, undulating riffs and Stephen Pearcy's distinctive voice. The golden five set the lineup: Pearcy (vocals), the twin guitars of Warren DeMartini and Robbin Crosby, Juan Croucier (bass) and Bobby Blotzer (drums). The guitars leave a strong impression not only with flashy solos but with the strength of rhythm that pushes the songs. Led by "Round and Round," the songs are compact yet full of hooks. Driven by the twin guitars of DeMartini and Crosby, "Round and Round" became a US number 12 hit and pushed the band to instant stardom. Songs like "Wanted Man" and "Back for More" are also full of momentum. A record that became a benchmark of 1980s LA metal, holding catchiness and dangerous allure at once.
