2026年1月23日に発表された、MEGADETHの17作目にして最終スタジオ・アルバム。セルフタイトルを掲げた本作は、過去をなぞるだけの回顧録ではなく、デイヴ・ムステインがキャリア、人生、そしてバンドそのものを総括しながら前進するための一枚だ。 スラッシュ・メタルの切迫感を核に据えつつ、鋭角的なリフ、緻密なギター・ワーク、重心の低いリズムが曲ごとに異なる表情を描く。先行曲「Tipping Point」から、タイトルどおり技巧を前面に出した「Let There Be Shred」まで、速さや難度を誇示するだけではなく、曲の緊張と解放をどう組み立てるかに主眼が置かれている。 ボーナス・トラックには、ムステインが共同作曲者の一人であるMETALLICAの「Ride the Lightning」を再構築したヴァージョンを収録。出発点への敬意を示しながら、MEGADETHとしての最終章を自らの言葉と音で閉じる――その意志が、作品全体を貫いている。

Bearing the band’s own name, it is not a retrospective that merely retraces the past; it is a record in which Dave Mustaine takes stock of his career, his life, and the band itself while continuing to move forward. With thrash-metal urgency at its core, the album shapes different moods through angular riffs, meticulous guitar work, and low-slung rhythms. From the advance single “Tipping Point” to the technique-forward “Let There Be Shred,” the focus is not simply on speed or difficulty, but on how each song builds and releases tension. The bonus material includes a newly reworked version of METALLICA’s “Ride the Lightning,” a song Mustaine co-wrote.
