Living Things

『Living Things』は、LINKIN PARKが実験的な前2作を経て、初期のハイブリッドなサウンドへと回帰した第5作だ。前作に続きリック・ルービンとマイク・シノダがプロデュースを手掛け、ロックとエレクトロニクスを高い密度で融合させている。バンド自身が「自分たちの肌になじむ場所」と語ったように、攻撃性とメロディ、そして個人的な感情表現が自然に結び付いた一枚だ。 “Burn It Down”は覚えやすいサビでバンドを代表するヒットとなり、“Lost in the Echo”“Castle of Glass”も高い人気を得た。“Lies Greed Misery”のような楽曲では、ラップとエレクトロニクスの緊張感が際立つ。録音はロサンゼルスのNRGスタジオで行われた。“Castle of Glass”はゲーム『メダル・オブ・オナー』にも起用され、幅広い層に届いた。“Powerless”“Roads Untraveled”のような楽曲では、繊細な感情表現が際立つ。バンドは前2作の実験を血肉としながら、より凝縮された楽曲へと落とし込んでいる。実験の成果を土台にしながら、より親しみやすい形へと結晶させた本作は、米ビルボード200で初登場1位を獲得した。バンドの多様な要素を凝縮した、充実の一枚である。

Living Things is the fifth album, on which Linkin Park returned to its early hybrid sound after two experimental records. Rick Rubin and Mike Shinoda produced again, fusing rock and electronics at high density. As the band itself said they felt "comfortable in their own skin," aggression, melody and personal emotional expression bind together naturally. "Burn It Down" became a representative hit with its memorable chorus, and "Lost in the Echo" and "Castle of Glass" also gained wide popularity. On songs like "Lies Greed Misery," the tension of rap and electronics stands out. Crystallizing into a more accessible form while building on the fruits of experiment, the album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200. A rich record concentrating the band's varied elements.
