『The End of Heartache』は、重いブレイクダウンと大きなメロディを融合し、KILLSWITCH ENGAGEがメタルコアの基準を押し上げた第3作だ。ジェシー・リーチに代わってハワード・ジョーンズがヴォーカルとして加入した最初の作品であり、ドラマーのジャスティン・フォーリーも本作から参加している。この時期にアダム・Dはドラムからギターへと転向した。ハワード・ジョーンズはBLOOD HAS BEEN SHEDの元フロントマンであり、“Take This Oath”には前任のジェシー・リーチもゲスト参加している。 表題曲はグラミー賞の最優秀メタル・パフォーマンス部門にノミネートされ、映画『バイオハザードII』のサウンドトラックにも起用された。“Rose of Sharyn”“A Bid Farewell”といった代表曲が並ぶ。ハワード・ジョーンズの咆哮とクリーン・ヴォーカルの対比が、バンドの表現力を一段と押し広げた。ゴールド認定を獲得し、彼らの名を広く知らしめた飛躍作である。本作はメタル・ハマー・ゴールデン・ゴッズ賞で最優秀アルバムに輝き、“Rose of Sharyn”は後にジャンルを代表する楽曲として讃えられた。

The End of Heartache is Killswitch Engage's third album, on which they fused heavy breakdowns with big melodies to push the standard of metalcore higher. It is the first album with Howard Jones on vocals in place of Jesse Leach, and drummer Justin Foley also joins from this album. Around this time, Adam D switched from drums to guitar. Howard Jones is a former frontman of Blood Has Been Shed, and his predecessor Jesse Leach guests on "Take This Oath." The title track was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance and was used on the soundtrack to the film Resident Evil: Apocalypse. Signature songs like "Rose of Sharyn" and "A Bid Farewell" line up. The contrast between Howard Jones's roars and clean vocals further widened the band's expressive range. A breakthrough that earned gold certification and made their name widely known. It won Best Album at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards, and "Rose of Sharyn" was later hailed as one of the genre's defining songs.
