『Rabbit Don't Come Easy』は、HELLOWEENが速いリフ、明るいメロディ、歌えるコーラスを揃え、バンドの最も得意とするパワー・メタルの楽しさを取り戻した第10作だ。前作『The Dark Ride』の暗く重い作風から一転し、再び開放的で明快な方向へと舵を切っている。曲は軽やかに走るが、ギターの硬さとリズムの押し出しが、十分な重みを与えている。 冒頭“Just a Little Sign”のキャッチーな推進力、“Open Your Life”の高揚、“The Tune”のメロディ、そして“Liar”の疾走まで、収録曲はいずれも明快なフックを備えている。“Hell Was Made in Heaven”のような曲も、アルバムに厚みを加えている。ユーモアを含んだタイトルの印象どおり、作品全体には遊び心と、拳を上げたくなる高揚感がみなぎっている。 ドラマーの交代など、制作面での困難もあった時期だが、そうした状況を感じさせない、前向きで力強い仕上がりになっている。伝統的なHELLOWEENらしさを、現代の音で再確認した一枚だ。“Sun 4 the World”のような曲でも、明るいメロディと軽やかな演奏が結び付いている。王道メロディック・パワー・メタルの魅力を、素直に味わえる充実作と言える。

Rabbit Don’t Come Easy is the tenth album on which Helloween gathers fast riffs, bright melody and singable choruses and recovers the fun of the power metal it does best. Turning from the dark, heavy style of the previous The Dark Ride, it steers again toward an open, clear direction. The songs run lightly, yet the hardness of the guitar and the push of the rhythm give ample weight. From the catchy drive of the opener “Just a Little Sign” and the lift of “Open Your Life” to the melody of “The Tune” and the speed of “Liar,” every song carries a clear hook, while a cut like “Hell Was Made in Heaven” adds thickness. True to a title with humor, playfulness and a fist-raising lift fill the whole. Though a period with production difficulties such as a drummer change, the result is positive and powerful, showing no sign of such circumstances. It is a record that reaffirms traditional Helloween in a present-day sound. It is a fulfilling record that lets you straightforwardly savor the appeal of straight-ahead melodic power metal.
