『Keeper of the Seven Keys: The Legacy』は、速いツイン・ギター、ドラマティックな鍵盤、アンディ・デリスの歌を軸にした、二枚組の大作だ。名作『Keeper』の名を冠した本作は、長編曲では豊かな物語性と展開の多さを見せつつ、短い曲ではパワー・メタルらしい即効性をしっかりと保っている。 冒頭を飾る13分を超える長編“The King for a 1000 Years”の壮大さ、ユーモラスな“Mrs. God”の遊び心、“The Invisible Man”のドラマ性、そしてキャンディス・ナイトを迎えた“Light the Universe”の叙情まで、収録曲は驚くほど幅広い。“Occasion Avenue”のような長編曲も、アルバムに深みを与えている。 壮大なスケールの中にも、HELLOWEENらしい明るさと、親しみやすいコーラスが常に生きている点が、本作の魅力だ。過去の名作への深い敬意と、現在のバンドが持つ確かな個性とを、見事に結び付けている。“Born on Judgment Day”“Come Alive”のような曲でも、ドラマティックな展開と親しみやすいメロディが結び付いている。伝統を受け継ぎながらも、単なる焼き直しに終わらせなかった、野心的で聴き応えのある大作と言える。

Keeper of the Seven Keys: The Legacy is a double-album epic centered on fast twin guitars, dramatic keyboards and Andi Deris’s singing. Bearing the name of the classic Keeper, it shows rich narrative and abundant development in the long pieces while firmly keeping a power-metal immediacy in the short ones. From the grandeur of the opening long piece “The King for a 1000 Years,” over thirteen minutes, and the playfulness of the humorous “Mrs. God” to the drama of “The Invisible Man” and the lyricism of “Light the Universe,” which features Candice Night, the songs are astonishingly wide-ranging, while a long piece like “Occasion Avenue” adds depth. Its appeal is that, even within a grand scale, Helloween’s brightness and accessible choruses are always alive. It beautifully binds a deep respect for the past classic and the sure character of the present-day band. Inheriting tradition yet not ending as a mere rehash, it is an ambitious, engaging epic.
