Danger Zone

『Danger Zone』は、HARDLINEが力強く伸びるヴォーカル、タイトなギター・リフ、厚いコーラスを組み合わせ、王道メロディック・ハード・ロックの魅力を端正にまとめた第4作だ。2012年にフロンティアーズから発表された本作は、ジョニー・ジョエリと、鍵盤・プロデュース・作曲を担うアレッサンドロ・デル・ヴェッキオが組んだ最初のアルバムで、以後のHARDLINEの骨格を作った。トルステン・ケーネ(ギター)、アンナ・ポルタルーピ(ベース)、フランチェスコ・ヨヴィーノ(ドラム)が演奏を支える。 楽曲はドラマティックだが、過度に飾らず、歌の強さを主役にしている。シングル“Fever Dreams”の疾走感から、力強い表題曲“Danger Zone”、“Never Too Late for Love”、締めの“The Only One”まで、どの曲にも大きなサビと安定した演奏がある。少年期に『Double Eclipse』を愛聴したというデル・ヴェッキオは、ジョエリの声を想定して曲を書き、より洗練されたメロディック・ロックへとバンドを導いた。クラシックな魅力をまっすぐ味わえる、イタリア勢を中心とした新体制の確かな出発点だ。

Danger Zone is the fourth album, on which Hardline combined soaring vocals, tight guitar riffs and thick choruses to neatly assemble the appeal of classic melodic hard rock. This 2012 Frontiers release was the first album pairing Johnny Gioeli with Alessandro Del Vecchio — on keyboards, production and songwriting — who built the framework of Hardline from here on. Thorsten Koehne (guitar), Anna Portalupi (bass) and Francesco Jovino (drums) support the playing. The songs are dramatic but not over-decorated, keeping the strength of the vocal as the lead. From the racing single “Fever Dreams,” the forceful title track “Danger Zone,” and “Never Too Late for Love” to the closer “The Only One,” every song has a big chorus and steady playing. Del Vecchio, who loved Double Eclipse as a boy, wrote with Gioeli’s voice in mind and led the band toward a more refined melodic rock. A firm starting point for the new, largely Italian, lineup — the classic appeal delivered head-on.
