『Sigh No More』は、GAMMA RAYが前作の高揚感を引き継ぎつつ、より陰りのあるリフと緊張感を加えた第2作だ。カイ・ハンセンのギターは鋭く前へ進み、ラルフ・シーパースの高音ヴォーカルが曲に劇的な高さを与えている。デビュー作の成功を受けて、バンドはより多彩で成熟した表現へと踏み出している。 “Changes”“Rich and Famous”“Father and Son”“The Spirit”といった楽曲では、速さだけで終わらず、ミドル・テンポの重さやメロディの陰影が置かれている。“(We Won't) Stop the War”“Dream Healer”のような楽曲にも、バンドの幅広い表現力が息づいている。疾走するパワー・メタルの様式を保ちながら、社会的なテーマを扱った歌詞にも、バンドの新たな挑戦が表れている。“As Time Goes By”“Start Running”“Countdown”といった楽曲にも、力強い演奏と叙情が同居しており、シーパースの伸びやかなハイトーンが楽曲の劇的な高揚感を支えている。速いリフの疾走感と、じっくり聴かせる楽曲の対比が、アルバムに豊かな表情を生み出している。欧州パワー・メタルが90年代に入って新しい強度を得る瞬間を記録した、充実した一枚である。

Sigh No More is the second album on which GAMMA RAY, while inheriting the elation of the debut, added shadowier riffs and tension. Kai Hansen’s guitar advances sharply, and Ralf Scheepers’ high-tone vocals give the songs a dramatic height. In the wake of the debut’s success, the band steps toward a more varied, matured expression. On “Changes,” “Rich and Famous,” “Father and Son” and “The Spirit,” it does not end with speed alone, placing mid-tempo weight and melodic shadow. Songs like “(We Won't) Stop the War” and “Dream Healer” breathe the band’s wide expressiveness too. The contrast between the drive of fast riffs and songs that unfold at leisure creates a rich expression in the album. It is a full record that captured the moment when European power metal gained a new intensity entering the 1990s.
