Winterbane

『Winterbane』は、FROZEN CROWNが2021年4月23日に発表した第3作であり、バンドがほぼ別の姿で生まれ直した作品でもある。2021年1月、ギターのタリア・ベッラゼッカ、ベースのフィリッポ・ザヴァッタリ、ドラムのアルベルト・メッザノッテが同時に脱退した。5人中3人である。残ったジャーダ・"ジェイド"・エトロとフェデリコ・モンデッリは解散を選ばず、ファビオラ・"シーナ"・ベッローモ、フランチェスコ・ゾフ、ニーゾ・トマジーニを迎えて立て直した。 冒頭の“Embrace the Night”は純粋な熱量の塊、“The Lone Stranger”のギャロップにはアイアン・メイデンの残響がある。先行曲は“Far Beyond”。7曲目“Angels in Disguise”では、モンデッリの別バンド、ヴォルチュリアンのフェデリカ・ランナがデュエットで参加した。8曲目はジューダス・プリーストの“Night Crawler”のカヴァー、そして9分近い“Blood on the Snow”が幕を閉じる。デス・メタル寄りの重さが増し、賛否も呼んだが、この編成がバンドの土台となっていく。イモータルのアバスから受けた刺激が、この重さの背景にあるという。

Winterbane, released on 23 April 2021, is the third album — and the record on which the band was reborn as something almost different. In January 2021 guitarist Talia Bellazecca, bassist Filippo Zavattari and drummer Alberto Mezzanotte all left at once: three of five. Giada “Jade” Etro and Federico Mondelli did not fold; they rebuilt with Fabiola “Sheena” Bellomo, Francesco Zof and Niso Tomasini. The opening “Embrace the Night” is a lump of pure energy, and the gallop of “The Lone Stranger” carries an echo of Iron Maiden. The advance track was “Far Beyond.” On track seven, “Angels in Disguise,” Federica Lanna of Volturian — Mondelli's other band — guests on a duet. Track eight is a cover of Judas Priest's “Night Crawler,” and the nearly nine-minute “Blood on the Snow” closes it out. The weight leans further toward death metal, which divided opinion, but this line-up would become the band's foundation. Mondelli has said the impetus for that heaviness came from Abbath of Immortal.
