War Hearts

『War Hearts』は、FROZEN CROWNが2024年10月18日に発表した第5作であり、ナパーム・レコーズへ移籍しての第一作だ。編成にも変化があり、ギターのアレッシア・ランツォーネが加わって6人となった。理由は明快で、ハモリのギター・ソロが多い彼らの曲を、同期音源に頼らず生で再現したかったからだという。 表題曲から“Steel and Gold”“To Live to Die”へ、疾走感は一切緩まない。“Night of the Wolf”“On Silver Wings”“King of the Sky”“Ice Dragon”と、題名の並びだけでこのバンドの世界が伝わってくる。全10曲。ジャーダ・"ジェイド"・エトロの歌はますます太く、フェデリコ・モンデッリの男声と重なる場面で曲は最も高く飛ぶ。より豊かなヴォーカル・ハーモニーと管弦楽的な色彩が、初期の荒々しさに代わってドラマを担う。レーベルの規模が上がっても、彼らが鳴らしているものは何も変わらない。2018年の登場から6年、彼らは現代パワー・メタルの中心に近い場所まで来ていた。ファンタジー、冬、そして戦い。題材は最初から一貫しており、そこに迷いは少しもない。

War Hearts, released on 18 October 2024, is the fifth album and their first for Napalm Records. The line-up changed too: guitarist Alessia Lanzone joined, making six. The reason was plain — with so many harmonised guitar solos, they wanted to reproduce their songs live without leaning on backing tracks. From the title track into “Steel and Gold” and “To Live to Die,” the drive never slackens. “Night of the Wolf,” “On Silver Wings,” “King of the Sky,” “Ice Dragon” — the run of titles alone conveys this band's world. Ten songs. Giada “Jade” Etro's voice is thicker still, and the songs fly highest where it overlaps with Federico Mondelli's. Richer vocal harmonies and orchestral colour now carry the drama in place of the early rawness. The label may be bigger, but nothing they play has changed. Six years on from their 2018 arrival, they had come close to the centre of modern power metal. Fantasy, winter and battle: the subjects have been consistent from the start, without the slightest hesitation.
