『Impact Is Imminent』は、EXODUSが、鋭角的なリフと、切迫したリズムとを核に、スラッシュ・メタルの、その攻撃性を、多面的に、そして力強く掘り下げた第4作だ。鋭く刻むギターと、前へと突っ込むリズムとを、あくまで前面に押し出し、ベイエリア・スラッシュならではの、あの攻撃性を、一切の無駄なく、力強く提示している。ドラマーが交代し、ジョン・テンペスタが加入した時期の一枚でもある。より硬質で、正確な演奏が印象的だ。 冒頭の表題曲“Impact Is Imminent”の力強い推進力、そして“A.W.O.L.”の攻撃性、さらに“The Lunatic Parade”のドラマ性まで、収録曲は、いずれも聴き応えがある。“Objection Overruled”“Only Death Decides”のような曲も、作品の充実を伝えている。スティーヴ・“ザトロ”・スーザの、荒々しいヴォーカルが、全編で力強く冴え渡っている。 より引き締まった、タイトな演奏で、EXODUSの、その凶暴な攻撃性を、改めて力強く突き詰めた一枚だ。派手なフックよりも、あくまで、スラッシュとしての、純粋な破壊力と、演奏の精度とに、その重点が置かれている。ザトロ在籍時の、初期の充実を示す、力強く聴き応えのあるスラッシュ・メタル作品と言える。バンドの攻撃性が光る一枚だ。

Impact Is Imminent is the fourth album on which Exodus, around angular riffs and urgent rhythm, digs multifacetedly and powerfully into thrash metal’s aggression. Foregrounding sharply chopping guitar and forward-charging rhythm, it powerfully presents the aggression particular to Bay Area thrash without any waste. Also a record from a period when the drummer changed and John Tempesta joined. Its harder, precise playing is striking. From the powerful drive of the opening title track “Impact Is Imminent” and the aggression of “A.W.O.L.” to the drama of “The Lunatic Parade,” every song is engaging, while cuts like “Objection Overruled” and “Only Death Decides” convey the work’s fullness. Steve “Zetro” Souza’s rough vocals are powerfully in sharp form throughout. A record that, with tighter playing, again powerfully pursued Exodus’s ferocious aggression. Rather than flashy hooks, its emphasis is placed on pure destructive power and playing precision as thrash. A powerful, engaging thrash-metal work showing early fullness during Zetro’s tenure — a record where the band’s aggression shines.
