Ten Thousand Fists

『Ten Thousand Fists』は、新ベーシストにジョン・モイヤーを迎えて制作された第3作だ。前作までのファズ・クマックに代わり、モイヤーが本作から加入した。バンド自身とジョニー・Kの共同プロデュースのもと、軍靴のように踏み鳴らすリズムと強靭なコーラスを軸に、モダン・メタルとしての推進力を一段と強めている。本作はパンテラの故ダイムバッグ・ダレルに捧げられている。 表題曲“Ten Thousand Fists”は拳を突き上げるようなアンセムで、“Stricken”は叙情的なメロディで代表曲となった。GENESISの“Land of Confusion”をカバーした一曲も大きな話題を呼び、ミュージック・ビデオも人気を博した。“Guarded”“Deify”では攻撃性とフックが高い密度で結び付く。軍靴のようなビートと大合唱を誘うコーラスは、ライブでの一体感を強く意識したものだ。“I'm Alive”“Sons of Plunder”でも攻撃性と旋律が両立し、アルバム全体に隙が少ない。前作までの荒さが整理され、モダン・メタルとしての完成度が一段と高まっている。米ビルボード200で初登場1位を獲得し、バンドの勢いを決定づけた。力強さと親しみやすさを兼ね備えた、充実の一枚である。

Ten Thousand Fists is the third album, made with new bassist John Moyer. Replacing Fuzz Kmak from the previous albums, Moyer joined from this record. Co-produced by the band and Johnny K, it further strengthens its drive as modern metal around jackboot-stomping rhythms and robust choruses. The album is dedicated to Pantera's late Dimebag Darrell. The title track "Ten Thousand Fists" is a fist-raising anthem, and "Stricken" became a signature song with its lyrical melody. A cover of Genesis' "Land of Confusion" drew great attention, and its music video was popular. On "Guarded" and "Deify," aggression and hooks bind at high density. It debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200, cementing the band's momentum. Combining power and accessibility, it is an accomplished record.
