『Four the Hard Way』は、DANGER DANGERがキャッチーなコーラス、歯切れのよいギター、明るいロックンロール感を取り戻した作品だ。ポール・レインがヴォーカルを務め、オリジナル・メンバーのアンディ・ティモンズとケイシー・スミスもゲストとして大きく貢献している。未発表に終わった『Cockroach』からの再録4曲(“Still Kickin'”“Sick Little Twisted Mind”“Afraid of Love”“Goin' Goin' Gone”)に新曲を組み合わせ、バンドを有名にしたメロディ本位のサウンドへ回帰した。ドイツのMTMなどから世に出た。 曲はコンパクトに進み、サビに向けて自然に熱を高めていく。“Captain Bring Me Down”や“The Girl Ain't Built to Sleep Alone”のような勢いのある曲から、しっとり聴かせる曲まで、幅を保ちながらも一貫して聴きやすい。メロディを重視しながらも、バンドの演奏には適度な荒々しさがある。込み入った時代背景を抱えつつ、DANGER DANGER本来の華やかさを素直に打ち出した、軽快で親しみやすいハード・ロックの一枚だ。

Four the Hard Way is the album on which Danger Danger recovered catchy choruses, crisp guitar and a bright rock-and-roll feel. Paul Laine sings, and original members Andy Timmons and Kasey Smith contribute heavily as guests. Combining four re-recordings from the never-released Cockroach (“Still Kickin',” “Sick Little Twisted Mind,” “Afraid of Love,” “Goin' Goin' Gone”) with new songs, it returns to the melody-first sound that made the band’s name. It came out via Germany’s MTM and others. The songs move compactly, naturally raising heat toward the chorus. From driving tracks like “Captain Bring Me Down” and “The Girl Ain't Built to Sleep Alone” to gentler ones, it keeps range while staying consistently easy to hear. It values melody, yet the band’s playing has a fitting rawness. Carrying a tangled backstory, it plainly puts forward Danger Danger’s native flash — a light, approachable hard-rock record.
