『OUTBURST』は、BLINDMANが、新曲と、過去曲の再録曲とを、5曲に凝縮し、結成25周年期の、その確かな現在地を示した、充実のミニ・アルバムだ。メロディアスなハード・ロックを、その揺るぎない核としながらも、ギターの、豊かな表情、厚く美しい鍵盤、そして伸びのあるヴォーカルとが、楽曲ごとに、異なる鮮やかな景色を描き出していく。短いながらも、内容の濃い一枚である。 冒頭“A Man in Wonderland”の力強い推進力、そして“Destiny”のドラマ性、さらに“Diamond Dust”のような曲まで、収録曲は、いずれも聴き応えがある。過去の名曲の再録である“The Bed of Nails”、そして“Living a Lie”も、作品の充実を伝えている。中村達也の、流麗で叙情的なギターが、全編で力強く冴え渡っている。 過去の楽曲の再録は、決して、単なる懐古なのではなく、現メンバーの、その卓越した演奏と、更新された音作りによって、楽曲が、今のバンドの、確かな熱量で、力強く息を吹き返している一枚だ。そして、新曲は、その延長線上で、確かな未来を見せてくれるため、短い作品ながらも、その時間の幅を、豊かに感じさせる。BLINDMANの、その長い歴史と、力強く前進する意志とを、コンパクトに味わえる、聴き応えのある一枚と言える。バンドの現在地が光る一枚だ。

OUTBURST is a fulfilling mini-album on which Blindman condensed new songs and re-recordings of past songs into five tracks, showing its sure present standing in its 25th-anniversary period. While keeping melodious hard rock as its unshakable core, the guitar’s rich expression, thick, beautiful keyboards and soaring vocals draw a different, vivid scenery in each song. A short but dense record. From the powerful drive of the opener “A Man in Wonderland” and the drama of “Destiny” to a cut like “Diamond Dust,” every song is engaging, while “The Bed of Nails” and “Living a Lie,” re-recordings of past classics, convey the work’s fullness. Tatsuya Nakamura’s fluid, lyrical guitar is powerfully in sharp form throughout.
