本作『Expansion』は、結成25周年という、大きな節目に発表されたBLINDMANの作品であり、メロディックで、エモーショナルなハード・ロックという、その軸を、より確かなバンド感で、力強く鳴らした一枚だ。中村達也のギターは、その豊かな歌心と、鋭い切れ味とを、見事に両立させ、Rayのヴォーカルは、大きく美しいメロディを、まっすぐに、そして力強く届けていく。長いキャリアの、確かな充実が刻まれた一枚である。 冒頭“Love Drifter”の力強い推進力、そして“Angel Smile”のドラマ性、さらに“Promise of Love”のような曲まで、収録曲は、いずれも聴き応えがある。“Never Say Never”、そして“Your Melody”のような曲も、作品の充実を伝えている。中村達也の、流麗で叙情的なギターが、全編で力強く冴え渡っている。 華やかで覚えやすいフックを、しっかりと持ちながらも、その演奏は、決して、甘さだけには流れず、リズム隊と鍵盤とが、楽曲に、確かな厚みを与えている一枚だ。キャリアを振り返る記念作であると同時に、現在形のBLINDMANが、まだ力強く前へと進んでいることを、明確に示している。誠実で、力強い、聴き応えのある一枚と言える。バンドの健在ぶりが光る一枚だ。

Expansion is a work by Blindman released at the great milestone of its 25th anniversary, a record that powerfully sounded its axis of melodic, emotional hard rock with a surer band feel. Tatsuya Nakamura’s guitar splendidly unites rich songcraft and a sharp edge, and Ray’s vocals deliver big, beautiful melody straight and powerfully. A record inscribing the sure fullness of a long career. From the powerful drive of the opener “Love Drifter” and the drama of “Angel Smile” to a cut like “Promise of Love,” every song is engaging, while cuts like “Never Say Never” and “Your Melody” convey the work’s fullness. Tatsuya Nakamura’s fluid, lyrical guitar is powerfully in sharp form throughout. A record on which, while firmly holding splendid, memorable hooks, the playing by no means flows to sweetness alone, and the rhythm section and keyboards give the songs a sure thickness. An anniversary work looking back on the career, it also clearly shows that the present-day Blindman is still moving powerfully forward.
