『Baptize』は、新たな歌唱体制のもと、メタルコアの重量感とアリーナ級のフックを大きく広げた、ATREYUの転換作である第8作だ。2020年に創設メンバーでヴォーカルのアレックス・ヴァルカッツァスが脱退した後、それまでクリーン・パートを担ってきたブランドン・サラーがリード・ヴォーカルへ、ベースのポーター・マクナイトがスクリームへ回り、カイル・ローサがドラムに加入した。新体制で初めて臨んだ、力強い再出発の一枚である。先行曲“Save Us”は2020年10月に発表され、ヴァルカッツァス脱退後のバンド初の楽曲となった。 先行シングル“Save Us”や“Warrior”“Underrated”は、攻撃的なリフとメロディアスなサビを兼ね備えた代表曲だ。“Warrior”にはBLINK-182のトラヴィス・バーカー、“Untouchable”にはPapa Roachのジャコビー・シャディックス、“Oblivion”にはTRIVIUMのマット・ヒーフィが客演している。プロデューサーはジョン・フェルドマン。サラーの伸びやかな歌が全編を牽引し、二十年以上の歴史を持つバンドが新章を力強く切り開いたことを示す、充実作である。

Baptize is Atreyu's eighth album, a transitional work that greatly widened metalcore's weight and arena-scale hooks under a new vocal setup. After founding member and vocalist Alex Varkatzas left in 2020, Brandon Saller — who had handled the clean parts — moved to lead vocals, bassist Porter McKnight took over screams, and Kyle Rosa joined on drums. It is a powerful fresh start, the first made under this new lineup. The advance track "Save Us," released in October 2020, was the band's first music after Varkatzas's departure. The lead single "Save Us" and "Warrior" and "Underrated" are signature songs combining aggressive riffs with melodic choruses. "Warrior" features Blink-182's Travis Barker, "Untouchable" Papa Roach's Jacoby Shaddix, and "Oblivion" Trivium's Matt Heafy. The producer is John Feldmann. Saller's soaring singing drives the whole record — an accomplished work showing a band with over twenty years of history powerfully opening a new chapter.
