『Will to Power』は、ARCH ENEMYが表現の幅をさらに広げた第10作だ。アリッサ・ホワイト＝グラズ(ヴォーカル)、マイケル・アモット(ギター)、NEVERMORE出身のジェフ・ルーミス(ギター)、シャーリー・ダンジェロ(ベース)、ダニエル・エルランドソン(ドラム)という布陣で制作された。強靭なメロディック・デスの攻撃性に、新たな色彩を加えている。 “The World Is Yours”の力強い疾走、“The Eagle Flies Alone”のキャッチーな高揚、6分を超える“A Fight I Must Win”の大作性は、バンドの充実を示す。ホワイト＝グラズが初めてクリーン・ヴォーカルを全面に据えたバラード“Reason to Believe”は、新境地として大きな話題を呼んだ。ルーミスの超絶技巧も冴え渡る。“Set Flame to the Night”の荘厳な導入、“The Race”のキャッチーな疾走も、アルバムの幅広い表情を伝える。ジェフ・ルーミスの加入は、テクニカルなソロワークでバンドの音像に新たな深みを加えた。クリーンとグロウルを大胆に往復するホワイト＝グラズの歌唱も、表現の幅を大きく広げている。“The Race”の激烈な疾走、“First Day in Hell”の力強い高揚も、アルバムの幅を伝える。長年支えたクリストファー・アモットに代わり、ルーミスの参加はギター表現に新たな緻密さをもたらした。攻撃性と新しい表現を両立させた、意欲的な一枚である。

Will to Power is the tenth album, on which ARCH ENEMY further widened their expressive range. It was made with the lineup of Alissa White-Gluz (vocals), Michael Amott (guitar), Jeff Loomis (guitar, formerly of NEVERMORE), Sharlee D'Angelo (bass) and Daniel Erlandsson (drums). It adds new color to the robust aggression of melodic death. The powerful drive of "The World Is Yours," the catchy elation of "The Eagle Flies Alone" and the scale of the over-six-minute "A Fight I Must Win" show the band's fulfillment. "Reason to Believe," a ballad on which White-Gluz put clean vocals fully to the front for the first time, drew great attention as new ground. Loomis's virtuosity is razor-sharp too. An ambitious record balancing aggression and new expression.
