The Catalyst

『The Catalyst』は、AMARANTHEの持ち味である三つの異なるヴォーカル表現を、さらに鮮やかなコントラストとして配置した第7作だ。2024年2月にニュークリア・ブラストから発表された。長く在籍したヘンリク・イングルンドに代わり、ミカエル・セリーンがグロウルを担う最初の作品となった。透明感のあるメロディ、荒々しいシャウト、低く切り込む声が交差し、ヘヴィネスとポップな即効性を同時に引き上げていく。オロフ・モルクとエリーズ・リードが作曲の中核を担う体制は、デビューから一貫して変わらないままである。 電子的な質感を取り入れながらも、楽曲の芯はあくまでメタルのリフと疾走感にある。表題曲から“Insatiable”“Damnation Flame”、“Outer Dimensions”“Resistance”、締めの“Find Life”まで、大胆なフックを前に出しつつ、細部では声の受け渡しやリズムの切り替えが緻密に組まれている。エリーズ・リードとニルス・モーリンが並ぶ“Stay a Little While”のような場面も光る。デビューから10年以上を経てなお、耳に残るのに軽くはならない、その均衡が本作の魅力だ。

The Catalyst is the seventh album, arranging Amaranthe's signature three different vocal expressions as an even more vivid contrast. Released on Nuclear Blast in February 2024. It's the first album with Mikael Sehlin handling the growls, replacing the long-serving Henrik Englund. Transparent melody, rough shouts and a low cutting voice cross, lifting heaviness and pop immediacy at the same time. The setup with Olof Mörck and Elize Ryd at the songwriting core has stayed consistent since the debut. While taking in electronic texture, the songs' core is still metal riffs and forward rush. From the title track through “Insatiable,” “Damnation Flame,” “Outer Dimensions,” “Resistance” and the closing “Find Life,” bold hooks are pushed to the front while the details — vocal handoffs, rhythmic switches — are meticulously built. Moments like “Stay a Little While,” where Elize Ryd and Nils Molin sit side by side, also shine. More than a decade on from the debut, this balance — memorable without becoming lightweight — is the record's appeal.
