Metal Heart

『Metal Heart』は、ACCEPTが持ち前の硬く短いリフの強さを保ちながら、より大きなメロディと、細やかなアレンジを積極的に取り入れた第6作だ。ウド・ダークシュナイダーのざらついた声と、ヴォルフ・ホフマンの正確無比なギターが噛み合い、曲は終始強い緊張感を保っている。前作の攻撃性に、洗練を加えた一枚である。 クラシック音楽のフレーズを大胆に引用したギター・ソロで知られる表題曲“Metal Heart”、キャッチーな“Midnight Mover”、そして“Screaming for a Love-Bite”は、バンドの攻撃性とフックの両方を鮮やかに示している。“Up to the Limit”“Living for Tonite”のような曲も、アルバムに幅を与えている。 正統派ヘヴィ・メタルの持つ力強さを一切損なうことなく、表現の幅を大きく広げた点に、本作の意義がある。ホフマンの卓越したギター・ワークが、より前面に押し出されているのも大きな魅力だ。“Wrong Is Right”“Dogs on Leads”のような曲でも、硬いリフと大きなメロディが結び付いている。攻撃性とメロディ、そして構成の妙が高い次元で結び付いた、ACCEPTの円熟を示す充実作と言える。

Metal Heart is the sixth album on which Accept, while keeping the strength of its native hard, short riffs, actively takes in bigger melody and fine arrangement. Udo Dirkschneider’s gritty voice and Wolf Hoffmann’s precise guitar mesh, and the songs keep a strong tension throughout. It is a record that adds refinement to the previous album’s aggression. The title track “Metal Heart,” known for a guitar solo that boldly quotes classical phrases, the catchy “Midnight Mover” and “Screaming for a Love-Bite” vividly show both the band’s aggression and hooks, while cuts like “Up to the Limit” and “Living for Tonite” give the album breadth. Its significance lies in greatly widening its expression without impairing the strength of traditional heavy metal at all. That Hoffmann’s outstanding guitar work is pushed further to the fore is a great appeal. Uniting aggression, melody and the deftness of construction at a high level, it is a fulfilling record showing Accept’s maturity.
