『T.N.T.』は、AC/DCをオーストラリアで一躍スターダムへと押し上げた、初期の極めて重要な作品だ。国際盤とは異なるこの豪州オリジナル盤には、後にバンドの代名詞となる幾つもの初期アンセムが詰め込まれている。デビュー作から一段と垢抜け、AC/DC流ロックンロールの骨格が、ここで明確に完成している。 爆薬を思わせる表題曲“T.N.T.”の破壊力を筆頭に、収録曲は短く太いリフと、ボン・スコットの不敵な語り口で一気に走り抜ける。難しいことは何一つせず、身体が自然に動くグルーヴと、拳を上げたくなる大合唱コーラスだけで、聴き手を掴んで離さない。その潔いまでのシンプルさこそが、バンド最大の武器である。 まだ荒々しさを残しながらも、後の巨大な成功を支えることになる、AC/DCの原始的で普遍的な強さがむき出しになっている。ボン・スコットのカリスマと、ヤング兄弟のリフが、最高の形で噛み合った一枚だ。テクニックや複雑さではなく、ロックンロールが持つ根源的な楽しさと爆発力だけで勝負する、AC/DCの哲学がここで確立された。オーストラリアのライヴハウスで鍛え上げられた、生々しい熱気がそのまま封じ込められている。バンドがその本質を掴み取った瞬間を記録した、歴史的に極めて重要な作品と言える。

T.N.T. is an extremely important early work that shot AC/DC to stardom in Australia. This Australian original, different from the international album, is packed with several early anthems that would become the band’s signature. More polished than the debut, the frame of AC/DC-style rock and roll is clearly completed here. Led by the destructive power of the explosive-suggesting title track “T.N.T.,” the songs dash through on short, thick riffs and Bon Scott’s fearless delivery. Doing nothing difficult, they grip the listener with a groove that moves the body naturally and fist-raising sing-along choruses alone. That near-clean-handed simplicity is the band’s greatest weapon. While still keeping a roughness, AC/DC’s primal, universal strength — which would support their later huge success — is laid bare. It is a record on which Bon Scott’s charisma and the Young brothers’ riffs mesh in the finest form. Recording the moment the band grasped its essence, it is a historically crucial work.
