LINER NOTES
LANGUAGE
In March 2007 Resist Records announced that Parkway Drive would spend May recording the follow-up to Killing with a Smile, once again with Adam Dutkiewicz; at the time the band was touring the United States with Comeback Kid, It Dies Today, This Is Hell and Endwell. The sessions ran through May at Zing Studios in Massachusetts, and early in June the label reported that the album was finished. It was mixed at Wicked Good Studios and mastered by Tom Baker at Precision Mastering. When the record was announced, Winston McCall said the band had raised its game on every front, from the songs to the sound, and that a second round with Dutkiewicz had gone smoothly. Jia O'Connor, already listed as a member of the band in 2006, plays bass on the twelve tracks, and Pete Abordi adds guest vocals to "Dead Man's Chest". Switzerland Design handled art direction and design, with illustration by Glennie Whittall and photography by Gordon Ball. "Boneyards", the first single, went up on the band's MySpace page in August 2007 and on sale through iTunes in September, and four days before the release the whole album could be streamed there. Resist released Horizons in Australia on Saturday 6 October 2007; Burning Heart Records issued it in Europe, and Epitaph Records in the United States on 9 October. It entered the ARIA albums chart at No. 6 and went to No. 1 on both the Australian artists chart and the independent chart, which Resist described as the highest ARIA placing yet for the band and for any artist on the label. Every show of the Australian tour that accompanied the release sold out. In 2009 Epitaph added eleven live recordings for a deluxe edition. On 6 October 2017, ten years to the day after the release, the band announced "A Decade Of Horizons", an Australian tour for January 2018 built around songs from the album, with Polaris as guests on every date, and on 17 September 2022 the Australian Recording Industry Association accredited the album Gold.
