LINER NOTES
LANGUAGE
The songs for Parkway Drive's third album were written over six months in the band's hometown, Byron Bay. In March 2010 Resist Records announced that the band would record in Los Angeles with Joe Barresi, who produced, recorded and mixed the album at JHOC during March and April; Brian Gardner mastered it at Bernie Grundman Mastering in May. Two guests appear: Brett Gurewitz, Bad Religion guitarist and Epitaph Records owner, sings on "Home Is for the Heartless", and Marshall Lichtenwaldt on "Hollow". Deep Blue holds thirteen tracks, with artwork and design by Dan Mumford, and its catalogue number, RES100, made it the hundredth release on Resist. "Sleepwalker" was the first song made public, on MySpace and for sale on iTunes on 19 May 2010. Its video, premiered on 9 June, was written by vocalist Winston McCall and co-directed by him with Aaron Briggs of Motion Circus, a friend of the band; it shows Brisbane being destroyed from a first-person point of view. A second video, for "Karma", followed in April 2011. It was shot at Dolphins Beach in Byron Bay and directed by Caleb Graham, who drew on his background in surf films. Resist released the album in Australia on 25 June 2010, and Epitaph Records followed in the United States on 29 June. It entered the ARIA albums chart at No. 2, kept from the top only by Eminem's Recovery, while heading the chart of Australian artists, and in the United States it entered the Billboard 200 at No. 39. It ended 2010 at No. 100 on ARIA's year-end albums chart. In October it won Best Hard Rock / Punk Album at the Australian Independent Music Awards, and on 1 November 2010 the band received the ARIA Award for Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album in Sydney. In May 2011 Resist announced that the album had gone Gold.
