Killing with a Smile

For its first full-length album Parkway Drive went to the United States. Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz produced and engineered the record at Zing Studios in Westfield, Massachusetts, in May 2005, with Waynus Krupa as assistant engineer. The booklet notes that Dutkiewicz then mixed it on the road in June and July, and that Steve Smart mastered it at Studio 301 in Sydney in August 2005. The line-up on the album was Winston McCall on vocals, Luke Kilpatrick and Jeff Ling on guitars, Ben Gordon on drums and Shaun Cash on bass. Of its eleven songs, "Smoke 'Em If Ya Got 'Em" had already appeared on the Don't Close Your Eyes EP and was recorded anew at Zing for this album. Asterik Studio of Seattle was responsible for art direction and design, and Jerad Knudsen took the photographs. Two years later Dutkiewicz would produce the band's next album, Horizons, as well. Resist Records released the album in Australia in September 2005, under catalogue number RES045. In June 2006 Resist announced that the band had signed with Epitaph Records, which would look after its releases in the United States, and Epitaph put the album out there on 22 August 2006; Resist was to remain the band's Australian label. The same year Golf Records issued it in the United Kingdom and Epitaph Europe on the continent. Epitaph later pressed it on vinyl, with a CD of the album packed inside. On 17 September 2022 the Australian Recording Industry Association accredited Killing with a Smile Gold, more than seventeen years after its release.
