DOLL$BOXX Biography
Biography
DOLL$BOXX is a Japanese five-piece all-female loud-rock band formed by vocalist Fuki and the Gacharic Spin instrumentalists Hana on drums, TOMO-ZO on guitar, F Chopper KOGA on bass and Oreo Reona on keyboards. The group began in 2012 after Fuki joined a Gacharic Spin tour as a support vocalist. Its musical identity places metal power, hard-rock motion, progressive structure and vivid pop color inside a single “toy box,” with every member contributing at an unusually high technical and visual level.
The debut album DOLLS APARTMENT was released on December 12, 2012. Songs including “Loud Twin Stars,” “Take My Chance” and “Merrily High Go Round” introduced Fuki’s expansive high register against an ensemble in which guitar, bass, drums and keyboards constantly collide and exchange the lead. The material can be structurally complex, but the melodies remain immediate. That combination, together with strong videos, fashion and humor, helped the band attract attention in Japan and abroad.
After an extended interval, DOLL$BOXX returned in 2017 and released the five-track mini-album high $pec in November. “Shout Down,” “Sub-liminal,” “HERO,” “世界はきっと愛を知ってるんだ” and “Dragonet” preserved the debut’s color while moving toward heavier low end, sharper modern production and more detailed rhythmic design. Touring and the 2018 video release high $pec High Return confirmed the group’s physical impact as a live band and the distinct stage presence of all five performers.
The band returned to the stage for the Gacharic Spin × DOLL$BOXX Zepp Tour “GACHA BOXX” in late 2024 and early 2025, then accelerated again in 2026 under the “TAKE OFF” banner. Their first one-man show in eight years, New Rhythm, was announced for September 26, with an additional performance to follow. The group also announced “Hashitte! Gachitte! Dogengers!,” its first new song in nine years and the opening theme for a tokusatsu television drama, for release on August 12, 2026. DOLL$BOXX remains distinctive because the members bring experience from separate careers back into the same formation and update the music each time they reunite.
On October 8, 2025, Zepp TOUR「GACHA BOXX」2025.01.12 Zepp Nagoya was released, a two-disc Blu-ray credited Gacharic Spin x DOLL$BOXX that documents the January 12, 2025 finale of the co-headline tour with Gacharic Spin at Zepp Nagoya, with DOLL$BOXX's eleven-song set on Disc 1; it is the band's first video release since the 2018 live DVD. The single "Hashitte! Gachitte! Dogengers!" was released by FABTONE Inc. on August 12, 2026. Its four tracks are the title song and the coupling "No time to fall," each followed by its instrumental, and it was the band's first new studio recording since high $pec in 2017. On October 23, 2026, King Records announced DOLLS AETHER, billed as the band's third album, with a release date of March 3, 2027. It holds six songs, and its first-press deluxe edition adds a Blu-ray of the complete September 26, 2026 show at Ebisu The Garden Hall. A tour of the same name, DOLL$BOXX TOUR 2027 "DOLLS AETHER", was announced alongside it: four dates, from DRUM Be-1 in Fukuoka on March 14 to EX THEATER ROPPONGI in Tokyo on March 28, 2027.
On stage, the band played its one-man show DOLL$BOXX LIVE 2026 - New Rhythm at Ebisu The Garden Hall on September 26, 2026. The additional show is DOLL$BOXX LIVE 2026 - Five-star at Spotify O-WEST in Shibuya on October 23, with the five original members including TOMO-ZO.
The Relationship Between DOLL$BOXX and Gacharic Spin
Indispensable to understanding DOLL$BOXX is the presence of Gacharic Spin, which provides the instrumentalists. Hana (drums), TOMO-ZO (guitar), F Chopper KOGA (bass) and Oreo Reona (keyboards) are all members of Gacharic Spin, a band known for high technical ability and entertainment value. With the addition of the accomplished vocalist Fuki, DOLL$BOXX gained a powerful configuration of "virtuosic instrumentalists plus overwhelming vocals." The charm of the project lies in how placing Fuki's high-register vocals at the front draws out a heavier, more metal- and hard-rock-oriented musicality distinct from Gacharic Spin proper.
Each member brings back the expressive power cultivated in their main bands and solo work, updating the music every time they reconvene in the DOLL$BOXX "toy box." This nature as a reunion-type project is precisely what makes DOLL$BOXX a special presence rather than a passing unit.
The Circumstances of Formation (2012)
The birth of DOLL$BOXX is deeply tied to a crisis that Gacharic Spin faced. When Armmy, Gacharic Spin's original vocalist, had to step away from activity for health reasons, bandleader and bassist F Chopper KOGA decided not to cancel the planned tour dates, but to get through them using several support vocalists. Among that support cast were Oreo Reona, who would later become an official member of Gacharic Spin, and Fuki, the vocalist of the power metal band Light Bringer.
Through these shared performances, KOGA and the Gacharic Spin instrumentalists felt a strong connection with Fuki. At the time, both Gacharic Spin and Light Bringer happened to be on a break from live activity, and they arrived at the idea of "creating a new band musically different from our main bands." Thus, in 2012, DOLL$BOXX was born, with Fuki at the front and the Gacharic Spin players gathered around her. Born from an incidental response to a crisis, this project acquired a heavier, more metal- and hard-rock-oriented musicality than Gacharic Spin proper by pushing Fuki's high-register vocals to the fore.
Fuki's Path and Gacharic Spin as the Parent Body
Fuki, who leads the front, is known as one of the foremost high-register vocalists in the Japanese metal scene. She became the vocalist of the power metal band Light Bringer in 2005, joined Unlucky Morpheus in 2008, and also developed a solo career, honing an outstanding singing ability in multiple settings. Her expansive, powerful voice gives a sure spine to DOLL$BOXX's metallic songs.
The parent body of the instrumentalists, Gacharic Spin, is a band formed in Tokyo in 2009. Bassist F Chopper KOGA, having left her previous band, launched it together with drummer Hana, a classmate from high school, and guitarist TOMO-ZO soon joined. In 2012, keyboardist Oreo Reona became an official member after serving as support. When the Gacharic Spin instrumentalists—known for high technical ability and entertainment value—combine with Fuki's singing in DOLL$BOXX, a configuration emerges that draws out the strengths of both to the fullest.
Detailed Member Profiles
Fuki (Vocal) — An accomplished singer known for expansive, powerful high-register vocals, one of the foremost in the Japanese metal scene. She became the vocalist of the power metal band Light Bringer in 2005, joined Unlucky Morpheus in 2008, and also developed a solo career. Her participation as a support vocalist on a Gacharic Spin tour in 2012 became the catalyst for DOLL$BOXX's formation, and she has since given a sure vocal spine to the metallic songs as the central presence of the project.
F Chopper KOGA (Bass) — The leader and bassist of Gacharic Spin. Having left her previous band, she is the central figure who launched Gacharic Spin in 2009. Known for distinctive bass playing that makes full use of slap ("chopper") technique, she gives the songs dynamic groove and overwhelming presence. Her decision not to cancel the tour when Armmy departed, and to bring in Fuki and others, was the direct catalyst for the birth of DOLL$BOXX.
TOMO-ZO (Guitar) — A guitarist of Gacharic Spin who serves as leader of DOLL$BOXX. She leads DOLL$BOXX's metallic sound image with sharp riffs and technical playing, and is a core member who also supports the band in composition and arrangement.
Hana (Drums) — The drummer of Gacharic Spin and a high-school classmate of F Chopper KOGA. She is a founding member who, together with KOGA, launched Gacharic Spin in 2009. With powerful, precise drumming she forcefully drives DOLL$BOXX's complex songs with their frequent scene changes.
Oreo Reona (Keyboards) — The keyboardist of Gacharic Spin, who became an official member in 2012 after serving as support. She determines the scale and color of the songs on keyboards. More than decoration, she is an important presence carrying DOLL$BOXX's symphonic and pop expanse.
Musicality and the "Toy Box" Concept
DOLL$BOXX's musicality comes down to the idea of packing metal power, hard-rock motion, progressive development and vivid pop color into a single "toy box" (DOLL$BOXX). TOMO-ZO's technical guitar, F Chopper KOGA's slap-driven bass, Hana's precise drums and Oreo Reona's colorful keyboards fiercely cross, and atop them rides Fuki's expansive high register. The way all five sounds assert themselves yet cohere into songs with immediate melody rather than chaos reveals the high level of performance and construction of every member.
Whereas the parent body Gacharic Spin foregrounds a more pop, entertainment-oriented side, DOLL$BOXX swings toward a heavier, more dramatic direction centered on Fuki's metal singing. This original concept of "a band with a different direction" makes DOLL$BOXX not merely another name for Gacharic Spin, but a project with an independent musical identity. It is also a great appeal of DOLL$BOXX that, beyond showing off technique, it is constructed as total entertainment including videos, fashion and humor.
A Closer Look at Each Release
DOLLS APARTMENT (2012) — The debut album released on December 12, 2012. In songs such as "Loud Twin Stars," "Take My Chance" and "Merrily High Go Round," it presented Fuki's expansive high register against an ensemble in which guitar, bass, drums and keyboards fiercely cross and exchange. Though the songs have irregular, complex structures, the melodies remain immediate throughout, and beyond showing off technique, the album drew attention at home and abroad for its total entertainment value including videos, fashion and humor. It is a varied, playful work worthy of the name "toy box" (DOLL$BOXX).
high $pec (2017) — A five-track mini-album released in November 2017 after an interval of activity. Containing "Shout Down," "Sub-liminal," "HERO," "Sekai wa Kitto Ai wo Shitteru nda" and "Dragonet," it preserved the color of the debut while evolving toward heavier low end, sharper modern sound and more detailed rhythmic construction. The title "high $pec" points to both the members' high playing ability and the precision of the songwriting and production. The following year, 2018, the tour and video release high $pec High Return again demonstrated the group's overwhelming impact as a live band and the presence of all five performers.
Conclusion
DOLL$BOXX is a special project gathering performers who each hold firm careers of their own—the accomplished vocalist Fuki and the instrumentalists of Gacharic Spin. Centered on the individuality shown on the debut DOLLS APARTMENT—"virtuosity × immediate melody × total entertainment"—it has continued to update its music each time it reconvenes, even across intervals of activity. The 2026 acceleration under the "TAKE OFF" banner and the first new song in nine years show that DOLL$BOXX is a project still evolving in the present tense.
