The Silent Force is a work on which WITHIN TEMPTATION combined heavy guitar, a cinematic orchestra and clear vocals, building a large swell of emotion. While the songs are grand, the melody is clear, and tension remains even in quiet scenes. Fully introducing a full orchestra, it is a record that expanded that scale at a stroke. On “Stand My Ground,” “Angels” and “Memories,” dramatic arrangement and the accessibility of the singing bind naturally. Songs like “See Who I Am” and “Jillian (I'd Give My Heart)” breathe the band’s full playing too. The grand orchestration running through the whole gives the work a cinematic scale. It is an important record that greatly opened the possibilities of gothic/symphonic rock.
