『The Q-Music Sessions』は、WITHIN TEMPTATIONがさまざまな原曲を自分たちの音へと翻訳した、企画性の強いカバー・アルバムだ。オランダのラジオ局Q-musicの企画から生まれた本作では、ポップやロックのヒット曲が、バンド独自の壮麗な解釈で生まれ変わっている。単なる選曲集ではなく、外部の曲をどう自分たちの間合いや声、ギターの鳴りへ置き換えるかを聴くと面白い一枚である。 原曲の知名度に頼るのではなく、リズムの押し出し、コーラスの厚み、ソロ前後の空気にこそ、バンドの個性がはっきりと浮かび上がる。シャロン・デン・アデルの透明な歌声は、どんな原曲もWITHIN TEMPTATIONの世界へと引き寄せてしまう。代表作の流れからは外れた企画盤だが、解釈の仕方にアーティストの美意識がよく表れている。バンドの新たな一面を楽しめる、興味深い一枚だ。本作では毎週1曲ずつラジオ番組内でカバーを披露するという企画のもと実に多彩な楽曲が取り上げられ、ポップからロックまで幅広いジャンルのヒット曲がバンドならではの壮麗な解釈で再構築されている。オリジナルとは全く異なる表情を見せる楽曲の数々が、バンドの解釈力の高さを物語る一枚だ。

The Q-Music Sessions is a strongly project-oriented covers album on which WITHIN TEMPTATION translated various originals into their own sound. Born from a project by the Dutch radio station Q-music, on this record pop and rock hits are reborn in the band’s own grand interpretation. Rather than a mere selection of songs, it is a record that is interesting to hear for how they replace outside songs with their own spacing, voice and guitar sound. Rather than relying on the fame of the originals, the band’s character clearly emerges in the push of the rhythm, the thickness of the choruses and the air around the solos. Sharon den Adel’s clear voice pulls any original into WITHIN TEMPTATION’s world. Though a project album outside the flow of their signature works, an artist’s aesthetic well appears in the way of interpretation. It is an intriguing record on which a new side of the band can be enjoyed.
