OVER GROUND

『OVER GROUND』は、同年の『UNDER GROUND』と対を成し、閉塞した場所から地上へ抜け出す感覚を3曲で描いたEPである。冒頭の「DISTINATION」は、目的地を目指して加速するようなリズムと、視界を切り開くギター、強い歌によって、作品の方向を即座に示す。綴りを含めた独自の題名は、既定のルートではなく自分たちで到達点を定めるTRiDENTの姿勢を象徴している。 「After rain」は、激しい時間の後に訪れる静けさと光を、開放感のあるメロディで表現する。雨が止んだ瞬間の空気の変化を思わせる構成は、三人の音が持つ爽快さを引き出す。「Think of」は、速度を外側へ向けるだけでなく、誰かや何かを思う内面へ視線を戻し、短い作品に深さを与える。力強いだけではないヴォーカルの陰影と、余白を生かす演奏が印象に残る。 『UNDER GROUND』が暗い場所で蓄えた圧力を示した作品なら、本作はそのエネルギーが光のある場所へ放たれる瞬間を捉えている。三曲という簡潔な構成の中で、疾走、解放、思索を順番に配置し、TRiDENTの表現が一方向ではないことを証明した。『OVER GROUND』は2021年の精力的なリリースを締めくくり、再録企画とオリジナル作品を両輪にしながら進むバンドの自信を形にしたEPである。

OVER GROUND forms a pair with UNDER GROUND and captures the sensation of breaking out of a closed place into open air. “DISTINATION” establishes the direction immediately through a rhythm that seems to accelerate toward a goal, guitar that cuts a path through the arrangement and a forceful vocal. Even the distinctive spelling of the title suggests a destination defined by the band rather than a route chosen in advance. “After rain” expresses the stillness and light that follow a violent period. Its open melody and change in atmosphere draw out the refreshing side of the trio’s sound. “Think of” then redirects motion inward, toward the act of considering another person or a larger meaning. The vocal carries more shade, and the ensemble uses space instead of filling every moment, giving the short record unexpected depth. If UNDER GROUND documents pressure accumulated in darkness, this EP catches the instant that energy is released into light. Across only three tracks, it sequences acceleration, liberation and reflection, proving that TRiDENT’s expression is not one-dimensional. OVER GROUND closed a highly active release year and made the band’s confidence audible. It also demonstrated how re-recorded material and new original songs could operate together as the two wheels of the same forward-moving project.
