The Wild Card

2025年11月21日に発表された、TREATの10作目。前作『The Endgame』から3年を経て完成した本作は、80年代初頭から現在までのバンド史を、音楽面と言葉の両方で一本の時間軸として描く作品だ。大きく開くコーラス、重ねられたハーモニー、歯切れのよいギター・リフ、鍵盤のきらめきというTREATの王道を守りながら、単なる懐古に終わらない理由は、各曲が異なる時代の記憶と現在進行形の熱を結び付けている点にある。 幕開けの「Out With A Bang」から、曲はスタジアム級の高揚とコンパクトなメロディック・ハードの切れ味を両立させる。「1985」はバンドにとって転機となった年を振り返る曲であり、「Back To The Future」「Adam & Evil」なども、過去を飾るだけでなく、その経験が今の演奏へどうつながっているかを伝える。ロバート・アーンドルンドの力強く伸びる歌、アンダース・ヴィクストロムのギター、厚いコーラスと鍵盤の配置は、長い活動で培われた個性を鮮明にする。 全13曲を通して感じられるのは、キャリア総括の落ち着きではなく、まだ次の扉を開けるバンドの前向きな勢いだ。ピーター・マンソンのプロデュース／ミックスによる引き締まった音像も、フックとバンド感を両立させる。本作はTREATの歩みを祝うと同時に、メロディック・ハード・ロックが現在も胸を高鳴らせる音楽であることを、晴れやかに証明する一枚である。

Released on November 21, 2025, The Wild Card is TREAT’s tenth studio album. Arriving three years after The Endgame, it turns the band’s history from the early 1980s to the present into a continuous musical and lyrical timeline. The expected TREAT elements are all here: open-armed choruses, stacked harmonies, crisp guitar riffs, and bright keyboard color. What keeps the record from becoming a simple retrospective is the way each song joins a memory of a different era to the energy of the band as it sounds now. From the opening charge of “Out With A Bang,” the material balances stadium-sized uplift with the directness of melodic hard rock. “1985” looks back at a year that changed the band’s course, while “Back To The Future” and “Adam & Evil” use the past as active material rather than decoration. Robert Ernlund’s powerful, rising vocal lines, Anders Wikström’s guitar work, and the careful placement of harmony and keyboards give the songs the clarity of a group that knows exactly what makes its sound distinctive. Across thirteen tracks, The Wild Card feels less like a calm career summation than a band opening another door. Produced and mixed by Peter Månsson, the sound stays tight enough to preserve the punch of the riffs while letting the hooks and collective performance breathe. It celebrates TREAT’s long journey, but its real achievement is more immediate: it shows that melodic hard rock can still sound vital, generous, and genuinely exciting in the present.
