Atlantis is a record TNT built around Tony Mills’ expressive singing and Ronni Le Tekrø’s flowing guitar. The voice of Mills, who joined on the previous The New Territory, settled into the band, and the songs value melody while firmly keeping a hard-rock push in the riffs and rhythm. Flashy technique and delicate emotional expression coexist, and a consistent translucence drifts through both ballads and up-tempo songs. On “Hello, Hello,” “Atlantis,” “Tango Girl” and “Love of My Life,” Mills’ soaring singing and Le Tekrø’s colorful guitar join tightly, vividly drawing the virtues of Nordic melodic rock. A song like “The Taste of Honey” also shows the band’s rich melodic sense. Rendering refinement backed by firm musicianship into accessible songs, it is a rewarding record conveying the fullness of Mills-era TNT.
